Vocational Leadership Program

Vocational Awareness @ Creekside HS

A behind-the-scenes tour of six career paths was part of a new program from the Irvine Rotary Club. The after-school program is a pilot project that connects Rotarians with the students to discuss career paths.

We have designed this program with the idea that students learn it’s okay to hold various jobs and to take your time to explore different careers. The pilot project has taken students to the Fairmont Hotel in Newport Beach (now the Marriott) to learn about hotel management, Fairhaven Memorial Park to learn about the funeral industry and to Brandman to learning both about nursing.

The Creekside students learned from Casey Peevy who directs Brandman University’s Nursing Studies Simulator. Day-to-day, he simulates wounds and other conditions to help nursing students practice their healing techniques.  Students also heard from Dr. James Morgan, a School of Nursing faculty member and a nurse, who answered questions the students submitted earlier.

The students were welcomed to Brandman by Chancellor Gary Brahm, who said like Creekside, Brandman takes a nontraditional approach to education and he stressed the importance of education in general. Assistant Vice Chancellor Jay Warner made sure they took a few Brandman mementos home.
