44 Child Heart Surgeries in Mumbai, India

The Rotary Club of Irvine partnered with Rotary Club of Bombay Seacoast to provide 27 open heart surgeries to children from economically disadvantaged families suffering from congenital heart diseases to enable them to pursue a healthy life thereafter.  However, due to the great stewardship in which the grant funds were managed, we were able to sponsor a total of 44 surgeries (60% more than intended).

In some cases the families of the children were able to fund part of the surgery cost from contributions received from other charitable organizations, in which case our contribution would be for meeting the balance surgery costs. The savings to the project was utilized for undertaking additional surgeries.

Ultimately, we provided quality life to children suffering from heart ailments by arranging heart surgery with best available specialists at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital & Research Institute in Mumbai, India.
