Rotary shares an interest in protecting our common legacy: the environment.
Rotary members are tackling environmental issues the way they always do: coming up with projects, using their connections to change policy and planning for the future.
Rotarians understand that the whole world is their backyard.
We are committed to supporting activities that strengthen the conservation and protection of natural resources, advance ecological sustainability, and foster harmony between communities and the environment. We empower communities to access grants and other resources, embrace local solutions, and spur innovation in an effort to address the causes and reduce the effects of environmental degradation.
$18.4 million of Rotary Foundation global grant funds have been allocated to environmental-related causes in the past five years.
Rotary is taking action to protect the environment

Habitat restoration
Members of the Rotary Club of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA, and other volunteers planted prairie grasses along the Milwaukee River. The club spearheaded an initiative to transform industrial land along the river into an arboretum. Members of the club have been active in habitat restoration efforts since the park opened in 2013.

Environmental education
Members of the Rotary Club of Baltimore Sunset, Maryland, USA, and partners from Volunteering Untapped planted a pollinator garden at Moravia Park Elementary School in Baltimore. The club participates in the Monarch Sister Schools Program, which aims to help schools throughout the United States and Mexico establish monarch butterfly and pollinator habitat gardens while providing students with valuable, hands-on learning experiences that connect them with nature.

Pollution prevention
In the Yarra River Clean-Up project, the Rotaract Club of Melbourne City, Victoria, Australia, led an effort by Rotary members in District 9800 to remove pollution from the river and surrounding pathways to prevent it from reaching the ocean.
