Meals for Homeless Families

$1,950 of $5,000 raised

Many homeless persons are people who have experienced a life-altering event and need a second chance to get back on their feet — a place to regroup, catch their breath and regain independence.

Irvine Rotary focuses resources to help residents of Home Aid shelters move toward self-sufficiency, through education, job skills training, financial counseling, and physical and emotional support.

These persons are often:

    • Youth who have aged out of foster care

    • Victims of domestic violence and spousal desertion

    • Children who have become homeless due to a family crisis

    • Families and individuals who are homeless as a result of job loss or illness

    • People who are unable to secure decent, safe housing at an affordable rate

PROJECT GOALS:

Through fundraising, volunteering, and business partnerships:

1. facilitate five meals per year for residents of the Home Aid shelter in Orange County and

2. support homeless projects focused on youth and literacy including annual diaper drive, book donations, and reading projects.

EXPECTED IMPACT:

Home Aid residents fluctuate between 50-60 persons at a time. The current rotation of persons returning to permanent housing and self-sufficiency suggests with will serve up to 500 unique persons per year.

By providing a hand-up to persons in temporary homelessness, we bolster their focus on a speedy return to employment, structured family life, and being contributors to our local economy.
